The (Un)Official Collection of "Perry Sez"

Q&A for v2 of the ASL Rules

When the ASL rule book confuses you. When you discover that the rule that seems perfectly clear to you is interpreted to mean something entirely different to your gaming buddy. Who you gonna call? Perry Cocke, that's who! Perry is the poor soul charged with answering all those twisted rules questions. I present here a collection of "Perry Sez" answers along with their questions for ASL Players to use for enlightenment.

The Question and related discussion will be in black.

The Answer will be in Blue

Thanks - SamB

Perry's Comments regarding interpreting the rules. (COWTRA)

Some of these Q's and A's date to v1 of the rule book. Some of it has been included in the v2 rule book, some has not. I include all the Q&A because some of it still applies but was not (should not have been, either) incorporated into V2 rule book because it was unnecessary... Unnecessary in the sense that the answer was plainly in the rules. But still needed in that it was unclear to SOMEONE.

NEW!! Scott Romanowski's Compilation of Errata, Corrections, Questions and Answers.... Version 21 (Oct 2002). Available here. (1.5 MB) Items taken from Scott's compilation are referenced as (SR21).

"I encourage everyone to post and follow such Q&A, but such Q&A is not strictly official until published or posted on our website." Perry - May 2003

Please -don't- send me a note telling me why a particular answer is "wrong". But if you have correspondence from Perry / MMP that provides answers to ASL rules questions, please send me a copy so I can post it. (Please check this list first to make sure its not already posted!) Check back often, I'll try to do some updates every week.

One other item... If a Question relates to more than one rule section, I'm trying to "file" these in the higher numbered rule. For example, a Question about Pin, Minimum Move and Japanese will be found in Chapter G - the Japanese rather than Chapter A.
