Weather Wars: Battle for the Guzunganator
Weather Wars: Battle for the Guzunganator
In Weather Wars, you recruit wacky animals to your cause. Once you reach one hundred power worth of animals, or your team reaches 150 power in team play, you take control of the weather machine and win the game. Early on, only small power creatures can be played, but as the game progresses, larger, more powerful creatures come online. Each creature has an ability that triggers when it comes into play, helping your cause or causing mayhem for other players. The season card indicates what season the weather machine has forced on the world. Gather more summer creatures in summer, or more winter creatures in winter, and you'll earn a big season bonus – but watch out! At any time a Season Change Card can flip the season and ruin all your careful planning.
Weather Wars features an unusual hand mechanic - rather than drawing a card each turn, cards are played until a player only has two left in hand. These last two are then discarded and replaced with a 5-card hand. This creates subtle strategic depth - which cards should be played now, which later, and which not at all? It also gives additional meaning to any card ability that allows you to draw extra cards.
Other game features include a catchup mechanic in the form of the Season Change card, game acceleration via prerequisites for playing larger animals, and opportunities for collaboration in team play. The game plays quickly, to allow for frequent replays.
Weather Wars is a family-friendly card game for 2-4 players ages 8 and up, and takes about 20 minutes to play.
